Tim Eyman has an initiative that is attempting to redirect funds gathered from red light cameras into combating congestion. On the surface, of course, that's a fantastic idea. But of course, aside from the fact that someone like Eyman only wants to reduce congestion in a way that favors more cars, there is a more palpable piece of stupidity in his proposal.

One thing he is trying to do to reduce congestion is to open HOV lanes to all comers in off-peak hours. This is a patently ridiculous notion. If the HOV lanes are necessary at any given point in the day, it's because there are too many cars on the road, thus they encourage people to carpool. If there are few enough people that they are not necessary, then there is no particular reason another driver would want to use them. People who want to open up the HOV lanes simply want to have their car and eat it too.

Now, if this is rewritten to put the funds right into light rail, I'll sign it and even help campaign for the old Eye Man.
